- Get support from those who will need it. This can include close and extended family as well as caregivers and neighbors.
- Do not expect instant success. It may take some time and patience.
- If possible, avoid situations that make hearing difficult until you are used to your new instruments.
- Small groups are better, avoid larger groups if possible.
- Try to sit directly in front of the source of sound if you are having trouble.
- Face people when speaking.
- Learn all you can about your hearing loss and educate others.
- Avoid background noise.
- Keep a positive attitude.
- Plan follow-up visits with you hearing health professional for any needed adjustments.
On the Phone
- Work with your TruHearing professional to find the best results.
- For custom models it may be best to hold the phone receiver against the ear as normal.
- For other models it may be wise to hold the phone slightly away from the ear.
- If feedback occurs, tilt the phone receiver away from your aid, experiment to find the best position.
