Being larger, it can provide longer battery life, it has room for controls that may be needed for advanced functionality, and it has space for directional microphones, which benefit noisy environments. Commonly BTE models are used to increase gain issues for profound hearing losses. Many people find this style more comfortable since there is less inside your ear. Those with poor dexterity may prefer it.

In-The-Canal (ITC):

The in-the-canal hearing aid fits inside your ear canal, and is almost invisible. It is a great option for the cosmetically conscious person. While there is no space directional microphones on this style aid, you can get much of the same functionality with automatic features on advanced models.

Completely-In-Canal (CIC):

This is the absolute smallest style available. Due to the small size of the CIC, it sits entirely in the ear canal. Also, the small size assists in wind noise, sound quality, and feedback issues. The CIC is a popular option for a lot of individuals, but cannot be fit in all ear sizes.
